Athens and its diversity. Old & new.
Apologies if you are unable to leave comments. Its a miracle that l am even on it.
Anne & l started the day with a hearty breakfast plus several cups of tea.
6 hours of walking through the streets and alley ways revealing the Plaka. If you visit Oakleigh on a Saturday there you will find tableloads of Greek men outside the cafes in the malls drinking smoking and talking animatedly. Our goal was to reach the Acropolis which teased us with a view of it at the end of a very long number of streets.
We came across Roman ruins everywhere but one of note was the Roman agora . The temperature was rising. It was 27 with sunny skies. By chance found the oldest orthodox church in Greece, boganvillia and jacarandas all in bloom. We strolled around the base of the Acropolis and found the most incredible archaeological museum built over an entire Roman neighbourhood showing life then. It was started in 1997. The amount of artefacts is astounding. We then took a hot long walk past agitators, armed police with batons, past Hadrians gate and Parliament house.
We slept like the dead last night.
