Chaos on the sea

4:30 wake up call! Needed to board a sea jet that takes 1200 people at a time to 5 Greek islands. OMG..chaos! We had to follow  our Greek goddess' distinctive hat. Great idea. Then it was fight to stay upright with your bag or be trampled! Found our numbers seat. I wasn't game to move from the seat. When we arrived at each island 100s of people would get off and on in the space of 5 minutes. Getting off Was another almost stampede as well as keeping your eye on "the hat!" I lost sight of the hat and was veering off searching madly for Lisa or Anne. All good. Once our little group of 9 now boarded our huge bus it was a snail's pace up the steep cliffs of Santorini behind 30 buses, 50 small taxi vans.  Oh hair pin bends too. 
We are in our resort resting before our stroll with our guide at 5:00. There are 9 pools in this resort. It's very palatial. I cannot keep my eyes open due to weariness and/or the stunning whiteness of everything against the stunning blue!
We have many adventures to.l come.

Day 8: Albania to Montenegro

Visited Kruje castle and its surrounding township on top of a mountain. Kruje was a fortress of resistance against the Ottoman empire in 15th century. Onto Petrovac Montenegro arriving in torrential rain & flooded paths to the hotel & flooded bridges across to rooms. "Fawlty Towers" it's now known as due to the mould in the rooms. Stench of sewerage in the toilet , curtains that should be hanging, tossed into musty cupboards, very ordinary. Rule is: Don't look up or at your feet, just straight ahead, otherwise you see mould. But its situated on a most beautiful promenade  & bay area filled with bars, restaurants  & eateries of every kind. Sand sun lounges as far as the eye could see.  Anne unfortunately came down with the dreaded gastro/diarrhoea bug going thru the bus. She was ill throughout the night & filled up the waste bin in the toilet with vomit. I had to explain to reception that the bin needed to be emptied. It didn't deaden the smell ...

Day 27: Sat . Brasov to Bran castle to Sinaia to Bucharest.

We toured Brasov  on foot which had once been a fortified town. Its also one of the most charming cities in Transylvania. It displays German architecture  but contains Gothic, Baroque & Renaissance influences. We visited the Black church  (caught in the Great Fire.) We travelled onto Bran & toured the Bran castle  or ( Dracula's castle.) It was overun with people, markets & looked cheap & nasty rather than authentic. In the late afternoon, we reached the famous Peles castle, the Summer residence of the first king of Romania. Incredible & over the top. Many many rooms with most rooms now occupied by private patrons. Onto Bucharest our 2nd last night in Europe.

Islands in the Stream

After my usual breakfast of fried noodles, omelette & muesli it was time to board a fast boat to Manukan Island, where we snorkelled & swam in warm waters to our hearts content. By afternoon it was time to head back to the shores of KK. A few of us braved the humidity & went shopping downtown. Shoes were bought for $5:00, kids T-shirts at $3.50. We went out for dinner , all 23 of us plus our guide, to the jetty, rice, seafood , fish, beef, curry & vegetables. Most days we eat this for lunch & dinner.
