"Get out of my way!"

Today we planned a Hop On Hop Off to Parliament house to watch the changing of the guard with the presidential guards who did synchronised marching. Its full of pomp & ceremony. On each Sunday at 11:00 its an extra special performance with a band playing. It's also a Pentecostal holiday here. We managed front row standing in 27 ° & stood for 40 minutes waiting  patiently until police moved us and the crowd back another 200 metres! We had again managed front row standing amongst thousands. It was certainly entertaining but seeing Anne's inner demons and her bitch face was far more entertaining. Anne took charge of the unruly crowd & if anyone dared to stand in front of her and many did...OMG! Cries of OI! SIT DOWN! MOVE! PISS OFF! (SAID QUIETLY)  YOU ARE PUSHING IN! Sent people scurrying from Anne the fish wife.
The guards wear shorts called " fustinellas" . There are 400 folds in each pair of shorts to represent 400 years of ruling.
Anne is trying hard to master the Greek language but admits it's all Greek to her! I enjoy saying Kalimera,Yassou & Efcharisto! The last one means thankyou. Anne tries her best but has been coming out with " f- harris-scarfe! Rather than f- harris- tow spelt phonetically. Anne will come into her own in Sicily with her skills in Italian.

Back to the Balkans.

Eastern Europe Summertime.. It was a long flight on Turkish Airlines. Good food, cramped seating. I slept most of the way which l am thankful for. Anne wants to wring my neck! Arrived at our hotel which seemed on the outskirts of Sofia. I slept 10 hours! Unheard of. Off to breakfast & sat with fellow "Trippers" & began sharing stories which is always fun. We met our very handsome Romanian guide Emil & we boarded the bus & took off. There are 36 people on this tour. This is large for me but its incredible by the end of day one you have swapped names , had a few laughs & know that the fun will continue.

Day 6: Ohrid Nth Macedonia

Stepped out onto the breakfast deck & looked out over Lake Ohrid. Stunning view. We travelled to the monastery of St.Naum built high on a rock overlooking the lake. Then we went onto the Museum.on Water also known as the Bay of Bones. An amazing archaeological complex of 27 huts, a reconstructed settlement built over water dating back to bet 1200 BC & 700 BC. Late afternoon, we were treated to a cruise on a boat around the edge of the lake for an hour and a half. We had music, dancing, a sparkling wine plus a cocktail of our choice! We were then delivered back to our hotel by boat as the sun set. Lovely!

Day 3: Venturing out in Sofia Bulgaria

First stop to the Museum of National history containing some of the most inspirational artefacts in Bulgaria. This building once was the Presidential Palace under Communist rule. We then did a walking tour to see the Gold domed cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, St George's rotunda built in 4th century, the oldest church in Sofia & a sole mosque, Banda Bashi mosque.  We timed our walk pass some men unloading 100s of cans free beer ! Yay! On a hot day it was perfect. Anne & l spent a glorious hour having  lunch in the Boulevard speaking to a most beautiful woman from Sofia.  7
