The Death Marches
After breakfast we went to a memorial site of the final camp of the Sandakan Death Marches. These were a series of forced Marches in Borneo from Sandakan to Ranau which resulted in the deaths of 2,400 prisoners of war by the Japanese. It remains the grearest single atrocity committed against Australians in WWII. 6 survived only as they escaped.
