The Village People

We departed for the Mari Mari Cultural Village (25 mins away). Over several hours, 100% humidity l swear, we were taught about local customs, traditional homes, culinary, craft & dance belonging to the 5 main tribes in Borneo. Maruk where our guide is from are very aggressive  & were the head hunting tribe. If a man wanted to marry but had never taken a head, he was refused marriage. We were given local juices, small treats & shots of coffee that would put hair on chest!
We watched a man start a fire in bamboo fire. Again if a man couldn't make fire & "provide"  he would be refused marriage with his chosen one.
We watched a ceremony of agility & strength when several tribesmen bounced on a " trampoline" whilst one man jumped to claim the " pinarta" very very high up!
