Day 5: Skopje tour + Ohrid

Skopje is a fabulous city rebuilt in 4 years after 80% of it was destroyed in 1963 earthquake. Architecture  is very flashy. Emil took us on a walking tour of the city, the memorial house of Mother Theresa, the square with the statue of Alexander the Great on his horse & the narrow streets of the old bazaar trading since 12th century.
We took a road trip up into the mountains to Ohrid, a UNESCO site. It once had 365 churches and was known as the Jerusalem of the Balkans. We wandered through narrow streets situated on the edge of the lake. It's Europe's oldest & deepest lakes formed over 3 million years ago.
We walked uphill to the Ancient theatre, to the top of another hill to Samuels fortress,   past a wedding & an old church.
A couple of us relaxed at the waters edge in a bar with lemonatta drinks. Divine! But buggered!
